The Philippines doesn’t have a national application portal. Instead, you apply to individual schools. There’s no limit on how many schools you can apply to, but some schools do put a limit on how many programs you can apply to in one go.

The Philippines has three official languages: Filipino, English and Spanish. There are also more than a dozen regional languages spoken across the archipelago. Filipino is the collective name for the various mutually-intelligible dialects of Tagalog. English is generally the language of the business sector.

Despite being regulated by the CHE, Filipino schools are free to set their own tuition fees. To stay competitive, however, most schools set their fees at between $1000 and $2500 per academic year. Courses like medicine and engineering will fall towards the higher end of this spectrum. 

Compared to many other countries, the Philippines has an affordable cost of living for international students. Manila, compared to the likes of London, New York or Boston, is extremely affordable. As many international students find themselves in the capital, these costs will reflect those of Manila.

If you want to study in the Philippines, then you will need a visa. If you’re of Filipino descent, but are not a citizen, then you’ll be classed as Balikbayan. This makes the application process slightly easier. But, as most international students probably wouldn’t be classed as Balikbayan, this section will focus on the standard application process.

Higher education in the Philippines has been heavily influenced by the American system. Most degrees take four years to complete and can be earned either by undertaking a preset program or by accumulating credits through standalone courses in a specific subject area.
