Objectives
- To enable students to deepen and extend their theoretical and methodological expertise in the scientific domain of Language Sciences
- To provide students with advanced research skills, viewing them as potential practitioners of scientific work in the area of Language Sciences
- To exercise students in the ability to promote technological, social or cultural progress in a knowledge- based society
Doutoramento em Ciências da Linguagem
Objetivos
- Proporcionar o aprofundamento, a extensão e a aplicação dos conhecimentos teóricos, metodológicos no domínio científico das Ciências da Linguagem
- Proporcionar formação avançada para o exercício da investigação, básica e aplicada, no domínio científico das Ciências da Linguagem
- Proporcionar a capacidade para, numa sociedade baseada no conhecimento, promover o progresso tecnológico, social e cultural, em contexto académico e/ou profissional

- Principais linhas de investigação: 1. Diversidade linguística, terminologia e comunicação de ciência; 2. Descrição de estruturas léxico-sintáticas para processamento computacional da língua; 3. Representação formal do significado de textos em língua natural numa perspetiva transformacional.
Admission requirements
Conditions of access
- Holders of a master's degree or legal equivalent in Language Sciences or related field;
- Exceptionally, holders of a Bachelor's degree or legal equivalent in Language Sciences with a relevant scientific curriculum that is recognized as attesting the capacity for the accomplishment of this cycle of studies by the Scientific Council of the FCHS;
- Exceptionally, holders of a bachelor's and master's degree or legal equivalent in other areas of knowledge, and who have relevant scientific or professional academic training that is recognized as attesting the ability to complete this cycle of studies by the Scientific Council of the FCHS;
- Exceptionally, holders of a scientific or professional curriculum that is recognized as attesting the ability for the completion of the doctorate by the Scientific Council of the FCHS.
Criteria for selection of the candidates
- Merit of the candidate, reflecting the academic degree grades (40%) obtained in the field of Language Sciences or related fields;
- Personal curriculum, reflecting the scientific and academic career (30%);
Students achieving a 60% mark in the previous criteria will be eligible for admission pending on the result of the next criterium (interview): - Interview (by videoconference), to assess scientific merit and motivation for entering the course (30%).
Necessary documentation
- Document proving that the candidate meets the conditions for access (admission) to the course, including copies of diplomas or transcripts;
- Updated curriculum vitae, including a list of published works.

- Titulares de um mestrado ou equivalente legal em Ciências da Linguagem ou área afim;
- Excepcionalmente, titulares de um grau de licenciatura ou equivalente legal em Ciências da Língua com um currículo científico relevante que seja reconhecida a capacidade para a realização deste ciclo de estudos pelo Conselho Científico do FCHS;
- Excepcionalmente, titulares de um bacharelato e mestrado ou equivalente legal noutras áreas do conhecimento, e que tenham formação académica científica ou profissional relevante que seja reconhecida a capacidade para completar este ciclo de estudos pelo Conselho Científico do FCHS;
- Excepcionalmente, titulares de um currículo científico ou profissional que seja reconhecida a capacidade para a conclusão do doutoramento pelo Conselho Científico do FCHS.

- Mérito do candidato, reflectindo as notas académicas (40%) obtidas na área das Ciências da Linguagem ou áreas afins;
- Currículo pessoal, reflectindo a carreira científica e académica (30%); Os estudantes que atinjam uma nota de 60% nos critérios anteriores serão elegíveis para admissão enquanto aguardam o resultado do próximo critério (entrevista):
- Entrevista (por videoconferência), para avaliar o mérito científico e a motivação para entrar no curso (30%)
Documentação necessária
- Documento comprovativo de que o candidato preenche as condições de acesso (admissão) ao curso, incluindo cópias de diplomas ou transcrições;
- Curriculum vitae actualizado, incluindo uma lista de obras publicadas.

As we are a public university, no studentships are available for Bachelor, Master or PhD degrees, independently of the students nationality. Nevertheless, for the second academic year (thesis research) there is a possibility to apply for a studentship within research projects running in our science and technology centers. You can apply for a studentship while completing your first academic year of the Master but we cannot guarantee that there will be funding for all students for the second research year.

- International Students*: 3000 Euros
- Application Fee: 100 Euros
- Registration Fee and School Insurance: 275 Euros
Note: The tuition of this course can be paid in 10 installments, being the first at the time of registration.
* in accordance with Decree-Law No. 36/2014, changed by Decree-Law No.62/2018, of 6th August, international students are nationals of a country which is not a Member State of the European Union and are not a legally resident in EU for more than 2 uninterrupted years by 1st of January of the enrollment year.
