Study abroad educational programs are study courses - usually short term - offered to students interested in pursuing educational opportunities in another country. Many universities, colleges and schools actively encourage cooperation with other institutes around the world to enable students to study part of their educational program in another country.

The benefits of studying abroad are obvious. Students are exposed to a different culture, experience alternative study methodologies, learn a new language and broaden their horizons. Many courses benefit from a joint degree approach. A particular institute or region of the world might be specialists within a segment of a courses syllabus. By having the option of learning directly from the worlds leading authority is an invaluable opportunity.

Studying within Europe has become particularly easy thanks to the widespread implementation of two systems: European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) and The Bologna Process:

European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS)

ECTS is a standard for comparing the study attainment and performance of students of higher education across the European Union and other collaborating European countries. It allows institutes to standardize their credit system and, therefore, makes transfering to another course, university or college easier.

The Bologna Process

The aim of the Bolgna Process is to make it easy to move from one country to the other (within the European Higher Education Area) – for the purpose of further study or employment;

At its core, the Bologna Process is designed to increase the competitiveness and flow of students around Europe. Therefore, if you're currently a European studying in your home country, consider a study abroad exchange with another university in a different European country. Programs like Erasmus are specifically tasked with assisting students to do exchange throughout Europe. So, combine your love of travel with your studies and move to a new country to experience a new culture, language, and way of life!
